I've got high hopes and low standard runs
i was born in the 'burbs to a sister and son
i don't eat the flesh, i don't call you by name
because eventually we sound the same
four tiled walls and five granite stairs
are shouting the truth but nobody cares
the static is up to drown out the sound
of being told the lights are shining downtown
and all the while i've been despised
for lack of charm and calling lies
my resume, to my surprise
read "upon a time, he became the sky"
all of my kids pray for a snow day
all of my hopes pray for a home
all of my friends hope for a clean break
my boss and his friends all want the same thing:
to smile and rest
what we have changed was innocence for innocence
what we've exchanged was innocence for innocence
what we've become is a shadow of ourselves
what will entail is undoubtedly doubt
